One of Windows 64-bit x86-64 editions is demanded to apply Exchange Server 2007 (v8 and v8.1 with SP1 accessible). But it’s demanded only for full units, so that trial edition demands only 32 bits. Anyway there are now some companies that keep on applying Exchange Server with 32-bit equipment. In order to move to the new edition of software they’ll need to change the equipment. Also it happens so that the companies are applying previous 2000/2003 Exchange Server even having sixty four-bit hardware. In this case they will need to move to the edition of 2007 as it doesn’t allow in-place upgrades.
In winter 2005 there was created the 1st beta edition of Exchange Server 2007, which was named E12 or “Exchange 12″. Not too many users were to test it that time. Later in early spring 2006 the release of one more developed beta version was fixed. Developer team of the software made it available with TechNet Plus or MSDN subscriptions. And finally in April 2005 the company confidently appointed the new edition of the software to be called Exchange Server 2007.
Actually Exchange 2007 is included into those Innovative Communications Alliance products. Here are the exchange host server roles to be components of the program release of 2007.
1. MB (Mailbox)
It holds open fold manages e-mails. MAPI access for the people who apply Outlook is also provided by Mailbox. But there can be a different variant. For clustering mail information with high-availability MSCS Clustered Mailbox role is applied. Clustered Mailbox can be never applied in combination with any different role on the exchange hosting.
2. The Role of CA (Client Access)
This role is meant to cater for the mailbox service protocol admission with no links to MAPI. It as well lets apply any handy features of Exchange 2003 FrontEnd server like ActiveSync (mobile gadget), POP3/IMAP4 mail clients or an OWA (Internet browser).
3. Unified Message or UM
Applying this role the users may list their mail, enter note books or something with only a telephone. But to make the server role function a user should install things like IP-PBX and VoIP gateway.
4. The Role of Hub Transport
This role is supposed to choose the destination for every e-mail. They are sent to Edge, Mailbox or another HT servers. Exchange 2007 sorts the message flow applying AD site data, which is not like in the strategy of 2003 when admin set routing groups were used.
5. Edge Transport or ET
Inbox begins with this role and outbox does end. In order to apply mail quarantine this role is quite frequently applied in any BES. The role may also work even if it is not connected with any Active Directory. It caters for safety even with only company network.
User Interface and Server Role Functions
Server role idea actually fixes the server settings for Graphic User Interface and CMD. Each server role is made specially for its destination in Exchange 2007. As for Mailbox, its feature is Get/Set-MailboxServer and the operator to check if it is functioning is IsMailboxServer. And so that will be Get/Set-ClientAccessServer and IsClientAccessServer for CA role. Hub Transport role with features Get/Set-TransportServer will be simply proved with IsHubTransportServer. And operators like IsUnifiedMessagingServer and Get/Set-UmServer are applied to Unified Message role.
